Remember Me Butterfly Haven

Monarch Waystation

Dedicated to all the babies born sleeping,

those weโ€™ve carried but never met,

those weโ€™ve held but could not take home,

and those that came home but could not stay.

Monarch Butterflies

You may have heard that the monarch butterfly population has dropped by 90% over the last 20 years due to the development and widespread use of herbicides in croplands, pastures, and roadsides. Another contributing factor is the development of subdivisions, factories, shopping centers, etc. This development is consuming habitats for monarchs and other wildlife at a rate of 6,000 acres per day.

To help save monarch butterflies, we created our own Monarch Waystation in the spring/summer of 2019. By creating and maintaining a Monarch Waystation, we hope to contribute to the monarch conservation effort, an effort that will help assure preservation of the species and the continuation of the spectacular migration phenomenon.

Creating

In November 2018, we applied for a grant from the local Monarch Alliance for a monetary donation to help create our Monarch Waystation. A month later, we found out they would be donating 192 plants to help us create our waystation! We received the plants in May 2019.

Our waystation was created in May/June 2019 by volunteers who helped clear the space, plant, and mulch. We are very grateful to those who were able to share their time and talent to help create our beautiful waystation.
